“Life expectancy” and “Healthy life expectancy”

Do you know what “healthy life expectancy” means? Healthy life expectancy is the length of time that a person is expected to live in good health. In Japan, the life expectancy exceeds 80 years old that is the longest in the world, and the healthy life expectancy is 74.5 years old that is also the longest in the world (according to the WHO announcement). Now please think it over again. What is the difference of 5.5 years?


The fact is that these 5.5 years are the period a person cannot live in good health. In short, there are 5.5 years he/she cannot live on his/her own without nursing care.
